Today(Aug 15) we celebrate the Indian Independence Day. The emblem you see above is an adaptation of the Sarnath Lion capital of Asoka the Great. The emperor erected the capital atop an Asoka Pillar to mark the spot where Gautama Buddha first taught the Dharma and where the Buddhist Sangha was founded.
